Creating Project Templates

Motion.io's Project Templates feature allows you to create new projects that automatically populate with all the tasks, stages, and portal pages you need without starting from scratch.

This article will provide instructions for the three ways you can create reusable Project Templates in Motion.io.

👋 Tip: After saving a Project Template, you can use it in new projects you create by selecting it in the project creation modal or specifying it in a Zapier automation you've set up to kick off new Motion.io projects.

How to Create Project Templates

Create a Template From an Active Project

When you have an active project that would be useful to save as a template so you can reuse it with other clients in the future, Motion.io provides a simple way to do so.

To do this, select a project from your dashboard and click "Settings" at the top of your screen.

Create a Template From the Public Library

If you'd like help creating your first Project Template, Motion.io provides a library of publicly available templates you can copy to your library and customize however you'd like.

To copy a public template to your library, click "Templates" from your account sidebar and select the "Public Templates" tab. Navigate to the template you'd like to save a copy of (you can also preview it by clicking the "eye" icon in the upper left corner) and click "Save to Your Templates."

After saving, the template will appear under the "Your Templates" tab, and from there, you can customize it however you'd like.

Create a Template From Scratch

To create a Project Template from Scratch, click on the "Templates" tab from your account sidebar and then "Create New Template."

After entering a name, description (optional), and clicking "Save," you can edit the template in a nearly identical manner to the way you edit active projects.

How to Edit Project Templates

To edit a new template after creating it (for example, changing the title/description or modifying any of the tasks, stages, or portal pages within it), you can do so by clicking the three dots on the right side of the template card and selecting "Edit Template" from the dropdown menu.

Editing Project Templates works in a nearly identical manner to the editing of active Motion.io projects with only a few minor exceptions that we'll include resources for below:
