Types of Client Notifications & When Motion.io Sends Them
Motion.io sends various email notifications to inform clients of tasks they must complete and update them on project activity. By default, all emails clients receive from Motion.io contain a magic link allowing them to access the portal associated with their project without logging in or creating an account.
The article will cover the types of notifications that clients can receive, the scenarios in which they receive them, and when Motion.io sends them.
Immediate Client Email Notifications
Motion.io sends an immediate email notification to clients for the following activities:
- Project invites: Clients you invite to Motion.io projects will immediately receive a single email notifying them and encouraging them to access their portal.
- Newly assigned & sent tasks: Clients you assign and send tasks to immediately receive an email notification with the task's title, description, and a link to their portal to complete it. If you send multiple tasks simultaneously (using the "Send Task" bulk action), Motion.io will group those tasks into a single notification email.
- Tagged comments: When you tag clients in task comments (using "@" + the client's name), they will immediately receive an email notifying them of the comment you tagged them in.

Non-Immediate Client Email Notifications
In addition to the emails clients receive immediately, Motion.io also sends notifications emails for:
- Task reminders: When you toggle "Reminders" for tasks, Motion.io automatically follows up until clients complete their assigned tasks. Reminder emails are sent automatically on a predefined schedule based on the task's due date. Click here to learn more.
- New chat messages: When you or your team member send a chat message in a project (individually or through a bulk action), all clients invited to the project will receive a notification email. To prevent overwhelming your clients' inboxes, Motion.io sends new chat message notifications to clients once every 10 minutes.
- Project digests: Project digest emails provide clients with a summary of all new comments and internal task activity over the past 24 hours. Clients will not receive a project digest email if a project has no new comments or internal task activity in the past day.
