Password Protected Portals
While Motion.io's loginless portal access can be a game-changer for fostering increased client engagement and a more seamless experience, businesses that require additional security can opt for clients to access their portals by logging in instead of clicking a magic link.
This article will explain how password-protected portals work in Motion.io and how to set them up.

How Password Protected Client Portals Work in Motion.io
After subscribing to Motion.io's Scale plan, you can password-protect client portals.
Team admins can enable and disable magic links for portal access. When magic links are disabled, clients are prompted to set a password for their account and can access their portal (and any projects you've invited them to) by entering their credentials.
📣 Note: You can turn portal passwords on/off both before and after you invite clients. If clients click magic links in emails sent to them before portal passwords are required, they will be brought to a page similar to the one shown above to set a password for their account.
Enabling Password Requirements for Client Portal Access
To require clients to enter a password to access their portal, go to Settings on the left, find the Portals tab , and toggle on the "Portal Security" option.
After creating a new project once you've disabled magic links, the invite emails clients receive will include an additional section at the bottom with their username and a temporary password (shown below).
👋 Tip: Aside from adding a small section at the bottom, portal passwords do not affect customizations you've made to any invite emails associated with projects.
Invite Emails for Password-Protected Portals
After disabling magic links, the project invite emails clients receive depends on how they are added to Motion.io:
- New Clients Added via a Project: If a client is added to Motion.io directly from a Project’s Users page or from a Task, they’ll receive an invitation email that includes their login email and a temporary password.
- Clients Added via the Directory: If clients were added to the directory before magic links were disabled, their first project invite email—sent after magic links are turned off—will direct them to the standard login page, where they can reset their password using the email you originally used to add them.
